Balian Beach.

28.07.2011 – Hobi arrived today at the Airport and we are three again. We got the boards back, with fin plugs on top for the GoPro and Hobi his new custom board. We stay another night at Kuta and leave tomorrow noon for Balian Beach again, yeeay!!

30.07.2011 – Balian is just awsome, it’s pure and enjoyable living here. Surf is pretty early in the morning, winds are a  threat from midday on. Especially these days blowing very hard and cross onshore.. kills the waves! It’s gonna be better from Monday on I guess. First pictures of the GoPro sessions will follow.

01.08.2011 – Nationalday in Bali, not much to say: Coconuts and some bottle of rum. Oh boy.

5.07.2011 – The last few days where not so good for the surf: Somehow, all componets didn’t match together. Wind starting early, swell from false direction and the tides kida killed it in the morning. Was a bit pissed, so we decided to start a motorbike-day-tour: Headed east first to Tabanan and later north through Penebel and to the hills. Hobis motorbike struggled halfway and we let it fix right there. Visited a big temple and crossed some jungel and more jungel and on and on…. we weren’t sure where to get out again…. or somewhen!
On the roads again we enjoyed a good lunch and watched some huuge ricefields. incredible. See all pictures in the following Weekly Impressions.
Oh and the GoPro is workin, tough the waves aren’t good, some shots happened. : )

Weekly Impressions V

Short stops.

19.07.2011 – We’re in Kuta again, same Homestay as before, the Seahouse. Joni’s got the fever now and taking medis, so we just hang around a bit. No surf for me, because at the ride back from the boat, they crushed my board, aaaah, it’s in repair now and soon we’ll get our new boards.

20.07.2011 – The boards arrived and we picked’em up yesterday evening at The Pitshop. Shop is running while they renovate the whole thing, haha not imaginable in Switzerland. The board is dope, at least it looks good ; )
We’re leaving Kuta this afternoon, Joni’s feeling way better. One night at Uluwatu, just to see this famous spot, guess we’re not ready for the surf there…

22.07.2011 – back in Seminyak since yesterday. I was in for a short session with my new board, damn it’s fat… well compared to my other one. But it’s good working in not so shallow but flat waves. It was ugly crowded so I got out pretty fast. Today again!
PS: Maybe I just made up my new Appartment back in Basel?! : )

Weekly Impressions IV

Boat Trip. Lembogan – Lombok – Sumbawa.

Was a pretty spontainious decision to go on a boat trip. Actually we where lookin for a transport to Gili Islands or Lembogan for snorkeling 2 days …. well we booked the whole surf board trip (with snorkiling and all meals included) for a damn good price at monday evening. The thing started at thuesday 7 a.m. : ) Here we goo ….

Day 1 – Off to the harbour at Sanur to get on the Boat. Metting the other 13 Peoples: 6 Espagnolos, 3 from Zouth Africa and 4 guys from Oz-land. The sea was super flat and there was no surf at Lembogan.

Day 2 – Next to estcoast of Lombok, Desert Point, nice surf session there and chilling on the boat (what we shall get used to)

Day 3 – Desert Point again in the morning and checking Scar reef, noot. So we left Lombok and went to Sumbawa already. 14 hours ride. chill chill sleep eat.

Day 4 –  We stopped at a nice little place and had to walk on land to yoyo’s. Cool thing how to get there. suf was a middle thing for us….

Day 5 – yoyo’s again what didn’t went super, so we left again to Gili’s. But we had so long there was no time for a drink at Gili’s, too bad.

Day 6 – Back in Lembogan, where a surf at Playgrounds and Shipwrecks was on and some snorkeling.

Day 7 – Back to earth and hard ground under the feet.

Weekly Impressions III

Kuta.

10.07.2011 – The last few days everything was very slow. 1. No swell at all, 1.5ft average allover Indonesia. 2. rainy and stormy. 3. I was having fever till this morning…
Hignlight of those days anyway: I made myself a Birthday gift, Joni and I gave a custom surfboard in order. And the freakin best of it, Joehan from the shop took us direktly to the Shaper. Nice and fun talk, discussing about the exact specs of the board, watching Buddi to shape the board, hang out with the boys….. damn it was a good day !!! Check it oooout… Should be finished in a Week.

damn good eye, buddi.

pretty proud.

the fabric family.

11.07.2011 – The evening we checkt in at the pit shop again, to give our paintings in and have some beers with all the crew. The Mike Woo, a now local shaper from Hawaii pumped in and joind the chill. We had some really good talk with him and the pit shops’s boss, buisness talk too. Let’s see what’s going on in the future…. ; )

Friends from The Pit Shop.

Weekly Impressions II

Balian Beach.

30.06.2011 – After having a great breakfast at the italian buffet, we left Seminyak this morning on our rides, to go north to Balian Beach. The Puspa-Villa was taken now from a friend of mine, funny. It took us more than 3 hours and well, we did’t made it directly to our destiny. Numb buts and dirty faces after all…

But the long journey was worth it, we found a beautiful place at a bautiful enviroment. Off from the big tourist centers and more rural. A luxory homestay at almost-paradise for the first 2 nights, this place is magical!

1.07.2011 – The swell was enormous!!! Checked the sea at 7am at the elevated clif and there where monsters rolling in… Definitely not the day to start at a new spot, Newmoon is on the rise.
I was having a great experience today: I met Meh, a friendly guy from right beside the resort on the street. We already talked yesterday a bit and now he was cracking a coconut and invited me to join for a coco-drink and flesh. At the end I was sitting in his house, with another traditionel coco-lime-coctail in on hand and their very own guitar in the other. It tooke some time to tune it but after we where jammin with his two nieces. Three Ösis joined later… dope! So nice and friendly people.

3.07.2011 – Yesterday I surfed the biggest wave of my life!! One of those monsters, so powerfull but it’s getting smaller now from day to day : ) no evedance photo, so sad..
Surjas Homestay is a very nice place and comfortable! There are 4 rooms witch are full now: another Swiss guy Mario, Frank from Canada and us. We’re getting more and more into the lifestyle here… Eating, surfing, meeting new people and locals every day.
Danis’ new favorite snack: fried banana chips and snake fruit.

5.07.2011 – We’re going to Medewi this afternoon and tomorrow I guess we’re on for a Longboard session, maybe Joni and Loux off to visit some ricefields. On 7. July we’re going back to Kuta, reorganising. stay tuned.
